Counselling

After a few years of working in General Practice, I noticed just how much our mental health impacts the rest of our lives. At times, giving physical health advice seems futile when someone is in a difficult headspace. I’ve found value in spending more time with patients, which involves a combination of listening and helping them work through stress and psychological challenges.

In 2023 I completed a course in Focused Psychological Skills (FPS) with The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). This has helped me to have an understanding of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which has equipped me to help my patients during counselling sessions and also in regular GP appointments. I have since also completed further training in Acceptance and Commitment therapy.

It is a privilege to be entrusted with my patient’s thoughts and feelings and a joy to work with them to find helpful strategies.

Please note: these sessions are currently only available for regular patients of Norwest General Practice.

Your medicare rebate depends on whether you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). If you do, you are eligible for subsidies for 10 sessions in a calendar year. Please note that using these rebates means that they cannot be used for sessions with a psychologist, should you also decide to see one.
